Vegetable Seed Packets
Where is the best/cheapest place to buy Vegetable Seed packets online?
I was hoping to find discounted seed packets this time of year… but I’m not really finding bargains. The seed packets are still costing $1.20-$1.75 online… isn’t that expensive?
Any good places I can go online?
I do NOT need bulk seeds… I’m trying to build an inventory of seed packets before everybody else starts buying them.

Where would you buy the best seed packets online? Or would you wait until spring and buy them in the stores?
Most garden centers put their seed packets on sale in September. That’s when I bought lots of lettuce and cabbage seeds at a Sutherland’s Garden Shop for 11 cents a packet. No joke. I do all my garden shopping in September every year and get awesome bargains.
September is the end of the normal growing season in the US and garden centers in big retail stores clear their items for Halloween and the Holidays. I bought some planting pots and garden utensils for 75% at KMart.
What people don’t know is that most seeds are still very viable for several more years (meaning they will still germinate). I planted corn and cow peas this summer that had an expiration date of 2006 and I still had a bountiful crop.
You won’t find any bargains this time of year for seeds. Many on-line stores are now getting ready to sell their winter crops. A packet can easily go for $4 and then there’s the ridiculous shipping costs. You are better buying seeds at a local garden shop. I found seeds for beets and turnips and spinach at the local ACE Hardware, when all the other big box stores were out of seeds.

PS–I grew plenty of tomato and green pepper bell plants from seeds this year. I have enough seeds from my own bean plants for next spring’s sowing. (There are always enough dried bean pods in my garden beds to keep over the winter)
